What is LHR or Laser Hair Reduction?

As the name suggests it is a treatment done through a machine to reduce hair on the face and body. It is done at a clinic under the guidance of a doctor for any body part.

What is the right age for Laser Hair Reduction?

As mothers to young girls we understand the need for hair removal. It is essential to be well groomed and of course, there is the peer pressure also. Laser is a good option for hair reduction however only when the hormones are stable so we recommend 18 years. It can be done as early as 16 years after a doctor has evaluated the patient.

Is Laser safe?

Yes. Laser is safe and is a very effective way of reducing unwanted hair. It needs to be done as 6-8 sessions at an interval of 4-6 weeks. After this maintenance will be required but at longer intervals.

What should one expect after treatment?

Slowly the density and thickness of hair reduces session by session. About 20 per cent reduction per session. At the end of the entire treatment schedule very fine hair will remain which are generally not bothersome.

How do we deal with hair growth between sessions?

We recommend no temporary removal methods like waxing or threading between sessions as this may damage the roots leaving the treatment ineffective. One can use a razor if required to shave off the growth if required.

How soon does the growth come back after laser?

Usually the first 2 weeks you will see some growth which will fall off and does not need to be touched. Normal hair starts to grow after that in the next 2 weeks.

What preparation do I need to do before laser?

No specific preparations is required. Just ensure no waxing or threading has been done at least 2 weeks prior in the area to be treated.

What is the procedure like?

The therapist will have the area prior to treatment and then use the machine to treat the area.

Is it painful?

No, the devices used now are almost pain-free. You may feel some tingling.

Do all areas on the body respond in the same manner?

No, areas where the hair is thick and dark gives better response like underarms, bikini, legs etc. In fact, areas with fine hair should not be treated with laser.
